Painting the Plein Air Landscape
Kathy O'Leary is a nationally recognized landscape painter who has been painting en plein air for more than two decades. Join her for two days of painting on location and learn her approach to working directly from nature. She will provide an introduction for those new to plein air, and assist in the continuing development of those wishing to improve their plein air skills. Students will receive individual attention and feedback throughout the workshop. Kathy's main focus will be composition, value and color in plein air painting. She will demonstrate her painting approach, including preliminary thumbnail and small oil sketches in preparation to painting a larger piece. Participants will meet at ESA for a brief introduction on Saturday morning, then spend the rest of the weekend painting on location. Kathy is accepting a limited number of students so register early!

Introduction to Origami
Learn the ancient Japanese art of paper folding. Blake Ritter, with over 20 years of origami experience, will guide you through the process step by step. The majority of models taught will be traditional origami; no cuts and made from a single sheet, although some modular pieces will also be covered. Open for all ages and skill levels, paper and take home instructions will be provided.

Painting the Figure
Thursdays from 1:00-4:00
PRICE: $100 for a 4-week pass plus model fee (model fee is split between students each week)
DESCRIPTION: Have you always been inspired by the portraits and figurative paintings of art history and wanted to try your hand at oil painting from a live model? Local artist Andrew Daniel will break down the process of painting the figure into a systematic step by step approach. Each class will include an instructor demonstration, painting from a live model, individual feedback, and a critical discussion period. Poses will range from quick 30-minute painted sketches to lengthy 9 to 12 hour poses (broken up over several weeks). Themes will range from semi-nude figurative to costumed models and portraits.

Mixed-Media in Art Making
Want to try something new? Rachel has designed this workshop with experimentation and creativity in mind. Join her and explore innovative ways of using a variety of materials, including paints, mediums, drawing implements, stencils, found objects, magazine clippings, etc. Specific techniques and exercises will be provided each month to get your creative juices flowing, and Rachel will even supply the materials!

"Mastering the Fundamentals of Figure Drawing and an Introduction to the Human Anatomy for the Artist"
This ONGOING CLASS takes a deeper look into the essential skeletal and muscular systems of the body from a drawing perspective.   Each week a new muscle or bone group will be studied through demonstration drawings, examinations of a live model and time for students to draw.  Students will gain a wider  understanding of the human body in figure drawing which can be applied immediately to their own drawings as well as give them a foundation for further anatomical study.
Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 9-noon.

This ongoing class focuses on the key principles that every artist needs to know in order to improve their work. The topics addressed include fundamentals of drawing and painting, understanding value, color, edges, and how to create a good design. Students work from their own photos or still life objects and individual goals and needs are addressed on a one-on-one basis.
TUESDAYS from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m.

Each week, Linda sets up a still life and guides students through the process of painting from life, focusing on color relationships and descriptive brushwork. The creative voices and personal goals of individual students are fostered and developed. $100 for a 4-week pass.

with Rachel Schlueter 
DESCRIPTION: Rachel Schlueter has a direct approach to painting that is uniquely her own. Join her for this ongoing class and learn how to draw with paint; how to mix paint directly on the canvas; how to make intuitive color choices; and how to use the paint itself as a means of expression. Rachel will focus on the use of photographic or print materials in an interpretive, highly personal manner that honors the individuality and creative spirit of each student. STUDENTS ARE WELCOME TO USE OILS OR ACRYLICS. All skill levels are welcome. $100 for a 4-session pass
